Infotainment Experience(ccNC Operation)
Overview
'ccNC' is an infotainment system designed to enhance the Hyundai Motor Group's in-vehicle user experience.
Hyundai MOBIS is a leading global automotive supplier specialising in advanced vehicle technologies, including autonomous driving, electrification, infotainment, and safety systems. Our team was responsible for visualising and enhancing the in-vehicle infotainment system (ccNC) for Hyundai and Kia's current and future models.
Goal

How the project progressed
Our way to solve the problem
Understand
Fully understand the GUI guidelines and identify inconsistencies to ensure new features integrate seamlessly into the infotainment design.
Define
Develop UI components and layouts for new vehicle features while updating and refining the GUI guidelines.
Finalise
Incorporate final feedback into the final infotainment design and deliver it to Hyundai MOBIS for development and integration into new vehicles.
The problems I found
GUI Guideline causing problems
One of the biggest challenges was ensuring that programmers and engineers could accurately follow the GUI Guidelines. My role was to bridge this gap by ensuring that all newly updated features were correctly positioned and fully aligned with the GUI Guidelines across upcoming vehicle models.

The major solution
Consistency in Resources
As the vehicles neared release, maintaining design consistency between Hyundai and Kia was crucial. While both brands offered the same services and layout, their design identities were distinct. Preserving these unique brand elements while ensuring a cohesive experience was essential. Additionally, maintaining visual consistency across graphic resources was important, as they shared key functions but differed in design.

Improving accessibility
Internationalisation across various vehicles
As Hyundai and Kia reached over 7.3 million users globally, internalisation became essential to delivering a consistent yet brand-specific experience. While both brands shared core services and layouts, I adapted the design system to reflect their distinct visual languages. This process deepened my understanding of each brand’s identity and ensured functional consistency without compromising usability or scalability across global markets.

Improving accessibility
Designing different functions
With active communication with designers and engineers at Hyundai MOBIS, I mainly focused on design features such as the Remote Smart Parking Assistant(RSPA), Split Screens, and My Vehicle while creating accurate GUI guidelines.

My learnings &
what can I do better next time?
1. Mobile UX/UI vs. automotive UX/UI
Automotive UX/UI design prioritises minimising driver distraction, requiring glanceable, intuitive interfaces. I focused on organising information effectively with clear typography, optimised layouts, and simplified visuals to enhance readability while driving.
2. Maintaining consistency across vehicle models
A key challenge was ensuring design consistency across Hyundai and Kia’s infotainment systems while preserving each brand’s unique identity. Balancing uniformity and differentiation was crucial for a seamless user experience.
Moving forward, I aim to collaborate more closely with developers to refine design-to-development workflows and conduct usability validations to better align with real user needs. This project strengthened my passion for user-centric automotive UX/UI design, and I’m eager to build more accessible and engaging in-vehicle experiences.
